WORK HISTORY
After graduating from Boston University in the late 1990s, I went to work in the Web development industry, which was still in its infancy.
I spent five years as a Project Manager for a Web site and Web application development company based in Seattle, WA. The company, now known as Peak Systems, had a unique relationship with Qwest Communications (at the time U S WEST Communications), a Fortune 500 company. Our group did internal Web site and Web application development work for Qwest and also helped develop Web sites for Qwest's external clients.
This experience gave me an excellent opportunity to interact with all types of businesses. As a Project Manager, and then Senior Project Manager, part of my role was to work with clients to determine their Web needs and then craft proposals that detailed how our team of programmers and designers could accomplish those needs. The sites I worked on ranged from small intranet sites to custom built database-driven Web sites.
In reality, I wasn't all that far from my journalistic roots. I made good use of my interviewing, note taking and writing skills. I also learned to keep projects on budget,
manage deadlines and work with team members and contractors to accomplish goals.
Today I am a reliable freelancer because I know the importance of project timelines and how missed deadlines can affect the bottom line. I diligently keep track of my time so that you always have a sense of where things stand with the project.
PERSONAL I take the need for variety into almost every aspect of my life. It has led me to have diversified interests - the only downside is that I never seem to have time to
do everything! I enjoy reading, photography, hiking, horseback riding, knitting, quilting, baking, and antiquing. Most often I make time for just being with family and friends.
