Concerned About Parabens in Skin Care Products, Skin Care Boutique Creates a New Line of Baby Care Products
Parabens are preservatives that can disrupt the hormones in our bodies. They are found in everything from shampoo and conditioner to shaving cream and deodorant. Violet Skin Boutique believes parabens do not belong in skin care products, especially baby products. Violet is launching Viola, a line of all natural baby products, just in time for newest member of this family-run business on Newbury Street in Boston.
Parabens are controversial, but concern about them is growing. On Oprah’s recent Earth Day Event Show, green expert Sophie Uliano advised viewers to avoid them. As a result of all this attention, paraben-free products have been on the rise. While most of women are hesitant to give up that perfect shampoo or face cleanser, when it comes to their babies, they want nothing but the best and purest products.
That is how Violet Mkhitaryan, owner of Violet Skin Boutique, feels about her soon-to-arrive grandchild. “This is going to be for our baby,” says Violet, who, after arriving from her native Armenia 15 years ago, was shocked to see how many preservatives were found in beauty and baby products in the United States.
The Viola product line launch coincides with the arrival of Violet’s daughter Susanna’s baby in late May. The products include Hair and Scalp Oil, Baby Body Oil, Diaper Rash Oil, Sleep Herbs and Bath Herbs. They join Violet’s existing line of skin care products, which are very popular with the Boutique’s customers.
Viola products are hand-made with pure herbs and help solve some of the most common baby issues. Cradle cap can be softened with Viola Hair and Scalp Oil, made with a unique mixture of organic herbal oils that will clean and nourish the scalp. It also promotes healthy hair growth and eventually eliminates the scaly patches.
Diaper rash can be relieved and prevented through regular use of Viola Diaper Rash Oil, an herb-infused oil extracted from St. John’s wart.
Studies have shown that regular massage can promote calmness, sustain or improve appetite, encourage growth and help babies to sleep better. Viola Baby Body Oil is an excellent massage oil that will also help prevent diaper rash, as it has antiseptic properties.
Violet has helped many of her clients relieve their babies’ allergies and eczema by providing them with natural remedies to be carried out at home. Many baby allergies are suspected to be caused by the chemicals found in commonly used baby products. When using Viola products, parents do not need to worry about exposing their babies to potentially harmful ingredients.
All products can be purchased in the store or on the web site, www.violetskinboutique.com.
An oasis of calm amidst the bustle of Newbury Street, Violet Skin Boutique is a frequented by a loyal customer base. “Once people try our products and services, they keep coming back,” says Rousanna.
The boutique has been awarded several Best of Boston awards by Boston Magazine. They won for Best Facial in 2005, Best Massage in 2006 and Best Wax in 2007.
In addition to facials, Violet’s Skin Care Boutique offers body massages, body treatments, hair removal and special maternity products and services. Treatment programs are available for skin problems such as rosacea and acne. Violet takes a holistic approach to skin care, providing her clients with recipes that will help nourish their skin from the inside.
Whether Violet’s clients chose a facial with herbs, orange, jasmine flowers or chocolate, the result is the same, beautifully refreshed skin.
